Blessings

There's a Christian word that really makes me feel uncomfortable for some reason. It's the word blessings. I don't know why but it just feels really... well, cheesey. Before I became a Christian I hadn't ever really heard it used. But, once involved in church, it was apparently a very common word to throw around. Where before I'd say, "what luck!" or "who would've thought" or "weird odds".. or... well you get the idea. So hearing Christians throw this word around has always felt fake to me.

Until I heard a very powerful song the other day while with my Mother-In-Law.

I know I share a lot of songs on here from time to time. For me music is able to express what my mouth is unable to do sometimes. I have the world's worst voice, but my soul deeply resonates with music.

And if there were lyrics that would be my cry to the Lord right now, this would be it.

I can't encourage you enough to take the 4 minutes and 56 seconds to listen to an honest cry sung to the Lord. I would be willing to bet your heart will connect to this too. Because we aren't different. Not as different as things seem. We all have hurts. We all have tears. We all have trials. But we also all have hope. Hope in the blessings. Blessings that are in disguise...

"Blessings" by Laura Story

Here are the lyrics:

We pray for blessings
We pray for peace
Comfort for family, protection while we sleep
We pray for healing, for prosperity
We pray for Your mighty hand to ease our suffering
All the while, You hear each spoken need
Yet love us way too much to give us lesser things

‘Cause what if your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
What if a thousand sleepless nights
Are what it takes to know You’re near
What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise

We pray for wisdom
Your voice to hear
And we cry in anger when we cannot feel You near
We doubt Your goodness, we doubt Your love
As if every promise from Your Word is not enough
All the while, You hear each desperate plea
And long that we'd have faith to believe

‘Cause what if your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
What if a thousand sleepless nights
Are what it takes to know You’re near
And what if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise

When friends betray us
When darkness seems to win
We know the pain reminds this heart
That this is not, this is not our home,
It's not our home

‘Cause what if your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
And what if a thousand sleepless nights
Are what it takes to know You’re near
What if my greatest disappointments
Or the aching of this life
Is the revealing of a greater thirst this world can’t satisfy
And what if trials of this life
The rain, the storms, the hardest nights
Are your mercies in disguise

OK,  I want to hear in the comments. Which line struck a chord most for you? Why? How can I pray for you? You can be as specific or vague as you want. You can be anonymous or put your name on it. But I promise to pray for you. And I can guarantee that your story will encourage myself and others. We have to share our stories in their time.
