Anyone that has ever lived or worked with me knows that I could win medals for being able to sneeze. Seriously. My allergies used to be so bad that I have been known to sneeze 20 times in a single minute. I promise I'm not even exaggerating. It was a rare talent... or just REALLY BAD ALLERGIES.
If you have allergies, I encourage you to read this whole post... or at least the last part.
As a kid I had been on allergy shots, so I didn't really have allergy issues after that. But when I moved away for college, something became inactive or something. The moment I got back to Houston it started.
Constant sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes (like couldn't wear mascara some days), itchy throat (you don't even want to hear my throat scratching noise), and a collection of every allergy medicine in the whole world. Sound familiar?
After I was married, Chris and I decided maybe it was time to go back to the allergist to see if I needed to do shots again. (That's how bad my throat scratching noise is, Chris was willing to invest whatever to fix it.)
I went to the allergist and he confirmed that my allergies aren't just average but they are unfortunate (his words). Apparently I am allergic to ALL four allergy season peaks. Every kind of tree allergy, every kind of mold, every kind of dust plus your basic pet allergy, smoke and dairy. Fun stuff.
He recommended I try allergy shots. After a year of NO changes, He recommended I switch to allergy drops. After a year of that I had it. I had spent too much time going to appointments and we had spent too much money on co-pays and shots and drops. It was time for something new.
My dear friend, Cristina, saved the day. She made a recommendation that would, literally, change our life...
I had never tried anything holistic or naturapath before. Honestly, I was too skeptical to try those. I thought that people that went to places like that were kind of looney and hadn't realized that God had also created medicine for our good. :) But I was desperate.
So I went in for my first consultation to have the CoRe test done last summer. I have to admit it was a little weird and different. I am still not 100% sure how it all worked, but this test was able to tell me more things about my body/health than any doctor or screening test I'd ever had. It was incredible. I realized that this could be the answer, not just for my allergies, but for my other health issues.
After talking to them about my options, Chris and I decided to take an aggressive approach- both for my allergies and we knew we'd want to start trying for a baby in the fall and wanted my body in the best health possible.
I began going in for NAET (Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Technique) twice a week for three months. After that, guess what?
NO MORE sneezing! NO MORE ALLERGIES to...
-smoke (yep I was allergic to my mom since she smokes)
-dairy (oh how I love eating cheese and ice cream without side effects)
-pollen or any kind of tree
-and many other things.
Seriously. I don't know how it worked, but it did. All I know is I didn't even know it was peak allergy season until I realized my car is now completely covered in yellow dust.
If you struggle with allergies (or any other health issue), I highly recommend you check them out! Feel free to call me or email me if you have any questions.
